Jacob Lowe is my son. He turned 21 Years old in Aug 2021. He has been diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy. He has finished 2 years of college and has decided to go enjoy life. We have put together a camper and he is traveling the country. The MD is affecting him pretty bad and there is no treatment known. Here is a gofundme to help him along the way.
Thank you You to everyone for your prayers and support. If you have facebook, you can follow him here. Jacob on the Road He spent time in quite a few places since the camper was done. Camper was projected to be done early May 2021, well, we all know how that goes. He had 2 buddy's helping and I told them multiple times they would not get to leave till Oct. They all departed on June 21, 2021 for Minnesota. Spent the rest of June and returned on July 22 for some appointments. They left again End of July back toward MN, then headed west on a journey. Camping anywhere they could and just enjoying life. States along the way are many. Sites un numerible. Got to the Pacific Ocean in Washington State. They loved it. His 2 buddies ran out of money on labor day weekend and headed home on Amtrak. Jacob then continued on his own until about the 15th of Sept. I joined him in Sacramento and continued the journey for 2 weeks. We ended up back home in Iowa. A few repairs were performed on the camper also a few appointments. He left again with his Sister Oct 16th headed east to Maine as a destination. Found out it was pretty cold to be camping that time of year. Both of his sisters could join him once in Maine. He then headed down toward Florida on a route that let him see many things. He spent 3 days in Wash DC. Street camped. He had a Scooter that he and sis would take out to see the sites. They then visited a friend in Fl and then down further to see alligator country. After that he came home on Dec 22. We worked on the camper a bit more over the new year. We bought him a E bike that has been a godsend for him to take on walking paths and trails. As he cannot walk very far or up any incline/decline. He departed by himself toward Arizona for the winter. A uncle was able to spend a week with him near Sedona. Sis came down for 2 weeks. Mom visited him in early April and week on a 2 week excursion that took them to Big Bend TX. And then their journey took them along the coast of TX and up into Louisiana. They got home and we did a few more things to the camper and he had appointments. The realization that the Doctors can do nothing is a painful reality. Denying excess visits is what is going on at times. He packed up and headed back to MN with boat in tow and my dog! Left on May 15th. He is spending the summer on a lake and doesn't plan on being back till end of July. This fall he is going to resume college classes. Many challenges ahead. Jacob finished his fall semester with flying colors. He enjoyed his classes and they are helping him form his future. He lives in Ames near the college with a few close roommates. The spring semester has started and the challenges continue. Support from all of our friends is helping him along the way. Living expenses, he is trying to cover on his own by working part time at the college. A project he wants to start working on is making a powered wheel chair with suspension to ease the jolts of riding. He is very familiar with riding dirt bikes as he grew up on them and now cannot ride them. So we are going to on this endeavor together. It is now June of 2023. Jacob finished his spring semester with flying colors. He is currently camping at a lake in Minnesota. He left last week of may and coming back end of June. We bought a Starlink so he can take summer classes from the camper. It works awesome in a remote location. When he comes back, there will be more medical tests. He is planning on graduating the end of 2023 fall semester. Jacob's Journey Link |
